Beginning Beef Showcase Rules

1. Exhibitors must be between the ages of 4 and 8 years of age as of September 1, 2025. However, any 3rd grader or 8 year old is NOT allowed to participate if he/she has any other entries at NWDJLS. All Beginning Beef Showcase exhibitors may only show in the Beginning Beef Showcase. Beginning Beef entries are not eligible for the NWDJLS premium sale.


2. Exhibitors in this division are required to show their animal. Participants 5 and under will be required to have parent, sibling or other participant accompaniment in the show ring. All participants MAY have parent, sibling or other participant accompaniment in the show ring. Exhibitors are to handle the majority of the showing and use of the show stick. Assistance may be provided to control the animal. All exhibitors are required to have a parent, sibling or other adult accompaniment in the make ready area.


3. Show limit: There is no maximum number of animals an exhibitor may show, however, only one exhibitor prize will be given per participant.


4. This exhibition is a BLOW & SHOW only.


5. Mini Hereford Classes: Steers must meet the height requirement of 48” or less at the hip. Heifers must meet the height requirement of 45” or less at the hip. The final measurement of cattle will be at the discretion of the Beginning Beef Superintendent and NWDJLS Show Staff.


6. AOB Classes: There are no hip height requirements for AOB cattle.


7. Age of Heifers and Steers: No cattle younger than August 31, 2025 or older than January 1, 2024 may be shown.


8. Class Breaks: All cattle will be divided into two divisions: Mini Hereford and AOB. All division classes will be divided and show according to birthdate.


9. Safety is the most important factor in this event. All animals in this divisions MUST be completely broke to lead for the safety of the exhibitors and others in the show ring. Animals not deemed to be broke will be removed from the show and disqualified from the competition.


10. Awards will be given to exhibitors at the show in both the heifer and steer shows as well as showmanship. Once participant award per participant will also be given.


11. Beginning Beef entries may NOT be housed overnight in barn unless they are entered in the NWDJLS.
